OH PEP
Olivia Hally and Pepita Emmerichs write songs about travelling and the sea and travelling on the sea. In mid-2011 Paddy Montgomery (bouzouki/mandolin), Stuart West (double bass) and Justin Olsson (kit) began playing songs with Oh and Pep. This phenomenon was called Oh Pep!
Oh Pep! released their self-titled EP last September to a jam-packed audience at the Toff in Town. Since then they have graced the stages at numerous festivals across Australia, including Moomba, JamGrass, Trevor: A Music Festival, Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, the Folk Alliance Youth Awards at the National Folk Festival (ACT), and forthcoming Perisher Valley Snowy Mountains of Music Festival (NSW) and Dorrigo Folk Festival (NSW).
Their favourite party trick is performing the whole of Paul Simon's 'Graceland' top to bottom.
'Whenever this comes on the radio I stop for a second to listen a little more closely as there's something really special about this tune. Olivia's got a great voice and the delivery is perfect here and each deftly plucked note sounds spot on. Very well done.' David Ruby Howe, Triple J
'I was instantly struck by Oh Pep!'s fierce musicality and their tightness as a band. They consistently combine stirring melodies and stories to produce songs that have stayed with me since the first listen and remain representative of everything I like about music. An exciting and warmly welcomed addition to Melbourne's live music scene.' Liz Stringer
'Oh Pep! are infectious, energetic, bursting with good tunes well played. Check them out.' Deborah Conway
'Big congratulations to Oh Pep! for last night's awe-inspiring launch. In my opinion, Melbourne should be holding this band aloft and say "This is how you craft emotionally powerful music." It's just sublime.' Les Thomas, Unpaved
'Oh Pep! are one of Melbourne's best bands.' Rich Davies, Rich Davies & The Devil's Union
