If choosing to speak in genres, Melbourne -- melodist Ainslie Wills describes her music as Neo -- Folk -- Rock, although she says that doesn't paint the whole picture, she, like most artists, is inspired by and transcends many styles. Whether it's with her fervent five-piece or stripped back to bare-bones acoustic, Wills' songs rush at you from unexpected angles and are underpinned by an undulating vocal style that is honest and compels the listener into her world.
After graduating from the VCA in 2005 Ainslie created her debut offering in the form of a self-titled EP that she produced and recorded with her own ears, voice and hands. Hungry to collaborate, Wills then formed a three-piece band with fellow VCA graduate Lawrence Folvig (Guitar), as well as Mirra Seigerman (Drums). The trio decided to record their efforts with the help of drummer/percussionist/electro-acoustic performer Joe Talia who tracked and mixed their EP 'Somebody For Everyone' in 2010. The first single 'Wide Load' received critical acclaim and was supported by Triple j who unearthed Wills in 2007.
More recently, Ainslie has been slowly harvesting a loyal following via her eclectic and electric live shows as well as working on writing and producing a full length LP in collaboration with her long time musical ally and accomplished Guitarist Lawrence Folvig.
Choosing the beach side location of Blairgowrie in Victoria during winter as the setting to record, the pair teamed up with friend, co-producer and engineer Jono Steer as well as fellow band mates with the aim of producing a lush and organic record. They left with the foundation of twelve new songs which Wills says, "is a departure from the last release in that it's more textural and cinematic in it's overall sound'
The first taste lifted from the debut LP 'You go your way, I'll go mine' comes in the form of a song called Fighting Kind, a song that asks the protagonist to 'find the truth' about his or her self. Fighting Kind is driving in it's delivery resounding with Wills' edgy vocals and an outro that beckons you to leave an old life behind.
Ainslie Wills' debut album 'You go your way, I'll go mine' is due for release in September 2012.
