Cheryl Murdock has been singing for appreciative audiences all her
life. When she started out, they happened to be of the bovine
persuasion — she would stand in the bed of her dad's truck on the vast
Texas ranch where they lived and sing every song she could think of.
Then she'd make some up.
It didn't take her long to start delivering her soul-splashed,
Texas-tinged pop-rock to equally appreciative human audiences.
Murdock, who teaches at the Austin School of Music, has been fronting
bands since she was 17, including the well-received Second Glance.
Though she back-burnered her musical aspirations while working in
advertising at the Austin American-Statesman, she's jumped back in
with both feet, and is now readying a solo album, Late Bloomer. Most
of its songs were written in Nashville sessions with Eric Pasley and
Angela Hurt; those collaborations were the result of her top-10
runner-up status in 2004's CMT/Nashville Songwriters Association
International contest. (She also earned a 2005 honorable mention.) The
title track references exactly what she's doing now: "pursuing the
dream I've always had."
TUNE IN AGAIN SOON!
