Paperplanes and Dragonboats is what happens when people who were never meant to meet somehow do. A devilishly stylish front man (Jonathan Kawchuk). Two concert band geeks (drummer, Andrew Macdonald and bassist, Sarah Grieve). A kid-brother (guitarist, Michael Kawchuk). The result is the constellation of players making music that was definitely meant to be. PAD recently won the 2010 Bucky Award for "Best New Band Name" (Other Bucky Award winners include Arcade Fire, Tokyo Police Club and Chromeo) but they are still very, very hungry. Based in Edmonton, PAD plays like every show is their last, and do not disappoint. Their music finds a place of existence somewhere between Grizzly Bear, Chad VanGaalen and Little Joy drawing inspiration from the ocean, times o' heartbreak, and everything in between. PAD's mission is simply to make you feel.
