PRESENTED BY NANCY ANDERSON LaBARBIERA
With numerous line-up changes over the years, The Hi-Tones have now found their stride with a harmonious blend of talent and passion. But no worries for original fans, the five piece indie rock group from Austin have not lost their authentic sound, nor their galvanizing stage presence.
Founding member and frontman Johnny Flores is simply a force. Flores' aptitude as a songwriter becomes more prominent with each album and his paramount voice and mesmerizing dance moves take live shows to another level.
Bassist and back-up vocalist Gary Delgado brings his own form of clout, direction and charm to each tune. The other remaining founder of the group, Delgado's talent is evident not only as a songwriter and musician, but producer as well. Mixing the band's third album at their home studio, Delgado's skill on the board brought a fresh sound and depth to their latest endeavor, Black Matter Manifesto.
The talent and creativity of guitarist Kyle Abrams have brought a richness to the ensemble's music. A creative songwriter and strong influence on their last two albums, Abrams' bold and gritty approach to guitar playing awakened an enlightened innovation to the group's sound and persona.
The latest addition to the band, Aly Beaujon brings an unmistakable allure on keyboard and synth. Holding her own with ease, Beaujon's style and finesse were an unseen necessity for the band.
With influences ranging from The Kinks to Velvet Underground to Dr. Dog, The Hi-Tones' mix of rock/psychedelic/grunge makes for an eclectic array of music. And with irresistible beats and catchy hooks to boot, the pop/dance fans aren't complaining either.
Releasing the Chris "Frenchie" Smith-produced TransAudioStasis in 2011 and Black Matter Manifesto in March 2012, the troupe continue to evolve with each album. Multiple tours around the country and showcases at the 2011 SXSW Music Festival, the self-managed band have proven they are here to stay.
